I did not follow the trial from start to finish, and I doubt people who have sounded off in outrage did. This morning a substitute juror was on the Today Show. (They are on the jury, but they don’t partake in the deliberation or vote.) He said he felt the jury got it right. The truth was the prosecution could not prove what actually happened, or who did it “beyond a reasonable doubt.” Hence the not guilty verdict. Our judicial system did not fail. It did what it supposed to do. We don’t convict people based on popular opinion, we convict off facts and evidence. This jury should be applauded for rendering their decision from that. Anger should go to the prosecution for not proving “beyond a reasonable doubt” that the defendant committed the crime. I think the woman is a whacko, and the case is bizarre, but I can’t convict her on that alone.
