So last night i made the mistake of going to bed watching MSNBC. Now this has nothing to do with the network, I frequent MSNBC’s coverage. However last night the coverage surrounded the ongoing negotiations about the debt ceiling. Let it be known that I hate the party system when it comes to our government. (Are we really united when we pin each other against the wall and call the other the Anti-American?)
I find it appalling politicians have turned a congressional procedure into a political stance. A procedure that has been done
74 times before, but now is a focal political point. I understand that there is a bigger picture of our national deficit, and that the argument is not about this one debt ceiling rise, but the ones to come.
This isn’t a game. People’s lives and our country lay in the balance. My grandparents’ livelihood lay in the balance. I think every member of congress should be ashamed of themselves. Not that I’m surprised at this point with their behavior.
I also place blame on congress, not the President. It is their job to get this done, and I think he has made it clear that they are failing. People who say he hasn’t tried are fools and clearly blind.
PS-Michelle Bachmann you continue to run
ads that say “I will not raise the debt ceiling,” yet it must happen, and has happened mostly under your parties rule. So tell me, is that a wise position to take? Logic would say, no. Common sense, as you put it, would tell you that the negative effects of not raising it will further hurt the children you speak of. Raise the debt ceiling and then show the courage to push legislation forward that will actually have a positive effect on the future.
